Winter Program Details
ORGANIZATION
The Purple Cobras Hockey Association is a youth organization focused on hockey development for U7, U8, and U9 players. The winter program includes players from Barrie and nearby communities, selected through tryouts or invitations. The spring program extends to U7-U13 players, offering AAA and Elite-level competition in top North American tournaments and has rosters with players from all over the world.
MISSION
The Purple Cobras Development Program provides young players with a fun, competitive, and age-appropriate hockey experience, focused on skill development in a progressive environment. The program aims to prepare players for full-ice competition, ensuring they face opponents of similar skill levels. The winter program is specifically designed to equip players with the skills and experience needed to transition to AAA/AA hockey at the U10 level.
CORE PRINCIPLES
Our Core Principles are focused on:
- Play - Our key focus will be on players learning to love hockey. Players will engage in full ice games throughout the season.
- Compete - Our players will play in a competitive environment. They will be playing against the top players from across the province and beyond. Our focus will not be on just winning but on competing, learning and development of all aspects of hockey.
- Develop - We want our players to love coming to the rink to get better each day and build long lasting relationships.
SEASON STRUCTURE
Teams will participate in six mandatory events during the season, with an additional invite-only holiday tournament. In addition, teams may schedule games with other KSL members throughout the season, all played on full ice. Teams will also have the opportunity to participate in additional tournaments, including select events in the U.S. The season concludes with an end-of-season tournament, included in the six mandatory events, celebrating all teams' achievements. Multiple tiers will be established for each age division (U7, U8, U9),
FAQS:
Question: Do the Cobras remove players mid season?
Answer: We do not ever want to remove a child from the program, however parents who act inappropriate, violate code of conduct or for non-payment could result in a player removal mid season.
Question: Do players get moved from one team to another in the middle of the season?
Answer: Yes players could be moved, all players who are involved, are placed in the division that their abilities allow them to play, should a player not be progressing or a player excelling at the lower tier, a conversation with the family would happen to discuss player options to either move them up or down, Our main focus is to ensure each player is in a situation to succeed and moving someone mid season to play the appropriate level of competition is important to the players long term success.
Question: We hear the Cobras are expensive?
Answer: The seasonal winter fees for the Cobras are set each spring, the seasonal costs cover over 50 hours of practice ice, 15 hours of off ice training and 40-55 full ice hockey games. Cost to play is very comparable to AAA level hockey and in fact is cheaper than many other organizations.
